Dr. Sterling Lacy
Dr. Sterling Lacy’s life is as interesting as it has been varied. He has been an ordained minister for over 40 years and a family counselor since 1975. He holds three graduate degrees including a Ph.D. in Christian Psychology from Trinity Theological Seminary. He served as President of Christian Heritage College, hosted numerous Ark-La-Tex radio and TV programs and wrote the best-selling book on Christian patriotism, Valley of Decision. Sterling and his wife Jean have been residents of Bowie County for 27 of their 47 years of marriage, they have 3 sons, and 9 grandchildren.
BUSINESS BACKGROUND
At 25, Sterling Lacy was hired by IBM to participate in the now-famous IBM training program. He eventually became a Systems Engineer for the computer giant, in charge of 14 industrial accounts. After looking for something beyond the corporate world of IBM, Lacy found a passion for teaching and taught Computer Science, Business Accounting and Economics at a private business college in St. Louis, MO. After teaching, Dr. Lacy was called to use his business experience in ministry. He served on several national boards for Christian ministries including 7 years as Chairman of the Board for Christ in Youth, Inc. He was also becoming more and more politically active, even running for public office. In 1986, Lacy started Emmanuel Counseling Clinic, the first Christian based counseling clinic in the Texarkana area. As his counseling business began to prosper, Dr. Lacy began looking for opportunities to become more engaged in politics. He saw a need to educate the people about how to look for biblical guidance in politics and government. That led to him writing “Valley of Decision: A Christian Primer to the Political Arena.” After publishing and marketing the book on his own, Vally of Decision became a best seller and eventually sold over a quarter of a million books world-wide.
